Abstract
Misconceptions and Truths about Motivation to Learn. The Secrets of Motivated Pupils
The spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus (COVID-19), school closures and the introduction of distance education left their marks on pupils. The teachers that carry out educational work at the primary level have reported that the pupils’ learning attention, responsiveness and engagement have changed or diminished. Such information indicates a reduction in and/or absence of motivation to learn. For the purpose of shedding light on the impacts of different factors on motivation to learn, this topic was included in the contents of an academic meeting of class teachers in the 2021/22 school year. The article presents the common misconceptions about motivation and the influences that increase the likelihood that a pupil will react by learning. Though there is no single theory on (self-)motivation to learn, modern science has reached the consensus that it is an internal process, which encourages a person to be active, and which guides and maintains this activity. The article reveals how to stimulate this internal process and the desire/need to learn by disclosing the truth about motivation to learn or the secrets of motivated pupils.
