Abstract
Positive Effects of Playing a Musical Instrument on the Child’s Intellectual Developmen
Music plays an important role in most human cultures – for example, it was an integral part of school curriculum as early as in Ancient Greece. When speaking of the importance of music, we come across two fundamental principles – essential and instrumental (Scripp, 2002). There have been a number of studies over the last decades that confirm the effects of playing a musical instrument on the child’s development in areas that are not related to music. The article focuses on research findings that demonstrate the positive effects of playing an instrument on the child’s intellectual development.
