Abstract
Sustainability Mechanisms in Nature Also Apply to Humans
The traces we are leaving behind by far exceed our planet’s ability to restore and to assimilate waste. This has altered the functioning of ecosystems, which is refl ected in the declining quality of environmental conditions for life, in the reduction of the quantity and quality of resources, and in the increasing frequency of unforeseen events. These changes require lifestyle changes. But all of that is impossible if we are not familiar with the structure of the ecosphere and understand its functioning; if we are not aware of its importance for our lives, or understand our actions and how they affect the ecosphere; or if we do not introduce measures for preventing negative effects and improving the situation. By improving our knowledge of natural systems and by becoming aware of our dependence on them, we are slowly changing the value system being pursued by society.
